Wainwright was a part of a comedic web sketch through the YouTube Smosh channel. In the following years, she appeared as a guest on several films and TV productions such as Criminal Minds. She was also cast as a werewolf Maia Roberts for Freeform's fantasy series Shadowhunters that is based on The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. After appearing as a character recurring in season 2, she was made a the role of a regular in season 3 of the show. Wainwright has been a regular on the Netflix show Raising Dion.
